New plans to improve the memorial gardens in Rhostyllen have been unveiled by Esclusham Community Council.  The project aim is to commission and install two sculptures in the two gardens which make up the memorial area within the village.

The design submitted was drawn up by Esclusham Community Councillor John Perkins during 2014 as part of the Council’s wish to mark the First World War Centenary.

The new memorials will be of a Tri Service design representing all the armed forces plus the Merchant Navy.

The Council is actively seeking funding for this project and is also planning fund raising events.  They are also working with a local historian to find out as much information as possible about the men from the community mentioned on the plaques within the memorial gardens.

Community Councillor Richard Elias advised “it has taken quite some time to get our memorial project to this stage.  We have a fantastic design and are working hard to secure funding to be able to commission the memorial sculptures, hopefully within the next twelve months.   This is a very important project for Esclusham at a time when we are commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War”.
